Cosmetic Dentistry in Surprise

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. When you meet new people you want to make a great first impression, and showing them a dazzling smile is a good way to start. However, maybe the thought of smiling fills you with dread, because you don’t want anyone to see the stains on your teeth. Perhaps you would rather hang out in the background, so nobody sees the chipped tooth right in the front of your mouth. Or you may be mortified to flash the gap between your front teeth. These are all issues that can be fixed with cosmetic dentistry.

An expert like a dentist that does dentures has experience with several cosmetic dentistry procedures that can make your smile shine.

Cosmetic Bonding

Used to repair chipped teeth, close spaces between teeth, make teeth look longer, or improve the appearance of discolored or stained teeth, dental bonding is one of the easiest of the cosmetic procedures. It involves the application of a tooth-colored resin to the affected tooth, which is hardened by a special light and bonds to the natural tooth, improving your smile. The procedure requires very little preparation and can be performed without anesthesia.

To perform the procedure, a skilled dentist, such as a cosmetic dentist in Chicago, first tints the resin to match your teeth. Dentist then roughen the surface of the tooth to aid in the adherence of the bonding material to the tooth. The doctor then applies the resin to the tooth, molding it to the desired shape, and shines an ultraviolet light on it to harden the material. Once hardened, the doctor can trim it and polish it to match the rest of your teeth. The entire procedure can be done in one visit, and usually take 30 minutes to an hour to complete.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are ceramic shells, custom designed to fit your mouth, that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They can be used to correct many problems, such as uneven alignment, gaps between teeth, crowded teeth, and teeth that are irregularly shaped. Having veneers placed will take two visits to our office.

During the first visit, our Dentist will prepare your teeth for the procedure and take detailed impressions. Dentist will select a shading that matches your natural teeth, and create a mockup of the veneers, so you will be able to see what your smile will look like. The doctor will provide you with temporary veneers to wear while your permanent ones are being manufactured at a US based dental lab.

When you come back for the second visit, our Dentist will remove the temporary veneers and secure the permanent replacements, using a very strong dental cement. Once the veneers are placed, the doctor will check for occlusion and make any necessary adjustments. With proper care, your new veneers will last for many years.

Whitening

Teeth can become discolored from many things. Using any form of tobacco exposes your teeth to tar and nicotine, which are both notorious for discoloring teeth. Many foods and drinks we consume can stain our teeth, like red wine, coffee, berries, and chocolate. Some people even find that their teeth are stained after using certain antibiotics, such as tetracycline. For stained, yellowing teeth, Our Dentist recommends the KoR whitening system. The system consists of both an office treatment and a take home follow up treatment.

KoR whitening is different from other systems, in that the gel is refrigerated from the time it is manufactured until the time it reaches your dentist’s office. Most gels are not refrigerated, and the heat they are exposed to causes them to degrade, decreasing their effectiveness and causing them to become acidic, which leads to tooth sensitivity. KoR also uses custom fit trays for the application of the gel. This allows the gel to stay in contact with your teeth for a much longer period of time than normal systems, increasing its effectiveness. With proper dental care and occasional follow up visits for touch ups, you should have the whitest teeth in town for a long time!
